 THOUGHT FOR LENT

 DESERT FLOWERS by Pat Marsh
Even the desert will blossom with flowers.
That's what you tell us, Lord.
And in some most desolate
And inhospitable places of this earth
That's how it sometimes is.
In parched, infertile ground
Made thirsty for water
Under an unrelenting sun,
In your season and your time
A great technicolour spectacle of flowers
Bursts forth with unexpected joy,
Surprising the desert landscape
In which it has its roots.
